Problems, Etc.  PLEASE NOTE: 911 IS FOR EMERGENCIES ONLY

Garbage And Recycling: Cans should not be placed at the curb prior to 8:00 PM the night before collection day. Putting refuse out earlier than this does not give a good appearance and can result in a summons from the Sanitation Dept. Please remember there is No Recycling pick-up during the entire week when a holiday falls on a Monday. Please DO NOT place your recycling cans at the curb when Monday is a holiday.

Effective Thursday, April 1, 2004 the following items should  be recycled

1. All plastic items such as bottles and  jugs.  Any plastic item that has a nozzle or a screw off top for example laundry detergent bottles, plastic ketchup or mustard containers, shampoo bottles etc.  DO NOT INCLUDE ANY OTHER PLASTIC ITEMS.

2. All beverage cartons including milk and juice boxes, etc.

3. METAL recyclables including cans, aluminum foil wraps and trays, household metal objects such as wire hangers, pots and pans, iron, metal pipes and other items made from metal will be recycled. (These items should be placed in a clear recycling bag or blue container) Paper Product recycling will continue as usual with no changes.

4. GLASS BOTTLES AND JARS ARE TO BE RECYCLED AGAIN!!!

Only recycle designated materials! If you include the WRONG MATERIALS with your recyclables, we're forced to collect the whole bin or bag as TRASH.

Tudor Malls: We are all aware of the Excessive Trash Bags being piled up at each end of our Malls along 133rd Avenue. Only trash that has been cleaned from within the actual malls are to be placed at each end for pick-up. Please keep your bags of leaves and refuse on your own property and place them at your curbside to be collected by the Sanitation Dept. on Mondays and Thursdays. We want to keep the beautification of our Malls and that cannot be done if residents continue to place garbage at each Mall corner. The situation, however is getting better. Thanks!

Parking On Lawns: Parking on lawns is not only PROHIBITED it is a building code violation and makes our Village a bit undesirable. It is also unlawful to keep a vehicle parked or stored in the same spot for more than 7 days. These vehicles can and will be ticketed.

Children At Play: An issue has come to our attention regarding our children congregating and playing in front of our neighbors homes. It can at times be an annoyance to other. We understand that our children need a place to play and hang out, which is why we have a beautiful  newly re-constructed playground for their enjoyment. Please be considerate and understand that children need to utilize their own properties. If you have young children, you must be outside monitoring their activities for their own safety. They should never be left alone outside after dark.

DOGGIE ALERT: We have not paid attention to curbing our dogs! It is not okay to walk dogs on our Ball Fields or Playground area. Dogs are not allowed in our Playground area, Concrete Field or Basketball Courts at any time. Signs are clearly posted...Please abide by them. When walking your dog around the outside area of the park or anywhere else...PLEASE PICK UP AFTER THEM!

City Won't pay up for sidewalk falls!

Property owners, not the city, will be liable when people get hurt on sidewalks under a tort reform bill signed yesterday by Mayor Bloomberg.

Sidewalk injury suits cost the city taxpayers $53.1 million last year, with plaintiffs collecting an average of $20,669. During the same fiscal year, 3,276 new sidewalk  injury claims were filed against the city.

"This legislation will save the city up to $40 million a year and help us weather our fiscal crisis," Bloomberg said after signing the bill.

Because the law won't affect cases already in court, it will take some time before the savings from new suits will be felt by the city treasury. But under the new law, future liability payouts will come largely from private property owners.

The law also will require property owners-except owners of one, two, and three family homes to carry liability insurance for personal injury and property damage in sidewalk accidents.

A companion bill, also signed by the Mayor, will allow people injured in sidewalk falls to collect a maximum of $50,000 for medical bills in cases where private landlords don't have insurance.

Department of Sanitation: The Dept. of Sanitation will no longer be collecting Fire wood and wood from trees growing on residential properties. The NYC Dept. of Parks will now provide a free onsite service of wood chipping and disposing of this material. To schedule an appointment, please call 311 or go to www.nyc.gov/parks. Debris should be bundled in bales no larger that 3 by 4 feet, tied in twine and contain NO individual piece larger than 4 feet long by 10 feet wide. NO treated or Painted Lumber, Wood Furniture, Wood Pallets, Building Lumber, Mulch Chips or Leaves. These will continue to be serviced by the Dept. of Sanitation.

NYC’s vulnerable children and teens need you. Consider becoming a Foster or Adoptive Parent. If interested, go to
www.nyc.gov/acs or call NYC Parent Recruitment Hotline
at (212) 676-9474.

Department For the Aging: Senior Employment Training Center offers Computer Skills, Personal Care Aide and Customer Service training to those 55 years or older. Call 311 for information and ask for Senior Employment Services.

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AWARENESS: If you or someone you know needs help, you should contact the 106 police precinct at (718) 845-2211.

NYPD Electronic Device Theft Reduction Program: The NYPD Transit Bureau has an excellent way for all passengers on our subways system to safeguard their electronic devices, such as I-pods, Cell Phone, Portable PlayStations, Blackberries, etc. Call the 106th Pct at 718-845-2211 to find out where the Transit Bureau etching stations are located.

Prevent Theft From Autos: Thieves need less than 20 seconds….
….Don’t be the next victim!
Never leave valuables (Portable GPS Navigation Systems, wallets, purses, credit cards, cell phones) in your car
Lock your doors and roll the windows up tight.
Valuables in the trunk are at risk. If you put valuables in your trunk, place them there before arriving at your parking destination.
Keep a record of all your credit card numbers. Write down serial numbers, makes and models of your personal property.

For further information, contact the 106th Precinct Crime Prevention Officer at (718) 845-2223.

BASKETBALL HOOPS: The police department will be removing any and all hoops that have been erected on the streets or sidewalks of New York City. Do not get your hoop confiscated. Streets and sidewalks are not for playing basketball. Backyards and Parks are where the children should be playing. If it is in your backyard, please be sensitive of noise. Most of your neighbors wake up early to go to work.

NOISE: Recently, new legislation has been passed and went into effect on July 1st. Zero Tolerance on Noise from parties, car stereos, ice cream trucks, etc. Our civic president has recently gone out with the 106 precinct’s noise automobile. Every house, business and vehicle was automatically issued a summons and ordered to cease the noise. Within the couple of hours he was out, numerous summonses were issued in a timely manner, and court appearances are mandatory. A job well done by the 106 Precinct Noise Auto. Please remember that all noise complaints are to be made to 311, NOT the 106 Police Precinct.

Lawn Litter Law: The Governor has just signed the implementing legislation for the law, which will ensure that the city will begin enforcing the Lawn Litter Law and help stop the avalanche of unwanted fliers and advertisements that are left on residents’ doorsteps. The law (S.6477, Chapter 3) mandates that all signs posted by residents must state in one inch letters “Do Not Place Unsolicited Advertising Materials On This Property.” The sign must also be at least five inches tall and seven inches wide and placed in a conspicuous location on a homeowner’s property. The Mayor has 90 days to designate an agency to establish the rules and regulations and enforce provisions of this law. Businesses that do not comply with the Lawn Litter Law will be subject to fines ranging from $250 to $1,000 per violation, with a cap of $5,000 for the total penalty. A pile of leaflets, advertisements and flyers lying around someone’s doorstep is a clear sign to burglars that no one is home. These simple quality of life issues have a significant impact on the safety and well being of our neighbors.

PUBLIC SAFETY: Effective November 24, 2009, by law, all children must be restrained in an appropriate child restraint system while riding in a motor vehicle until their 8th birthday. An appropriate child restraint system is one that meets the child’s size and weight and the specifications of the manufacturer. A child restraint system may be a child safety seat, harness, vest or a booster seat. The vehicle’s safety belt is NOT a child restraint system. Booster seats MUST be used with a lap and shoulder belt. Children 12 years and under should ride in the back seat. The simple task of properly buckling up children in the back seat reduces the risk of being killed in a crash by 33%.

HOUSES FOR SALE: In the past, the civic has tried to put family and friends of those who live in Tudor Village on the list prior to houses going on the market for sale. Obviously, it’s difficult for us to get the word out quick enough. Because if this, we have recruited the expertise of residents who are real estate agents to help sell and advertise at a very low commission fee as another benefit of being a Tudor Village resident. If you are interested in selling your home, we ask prior to obtaining your own outside realtor that you contact Frank Dardani at (718) 843-2329 and he will put everything in motion for you.
