2010
Census: In March, you will receive a ten minute, ten question survey
from the 2010 Census Bureau. If you do not complete the survey and send it
in, you will be depriving our community of much needed funds for our
schools, police, fire and all other vital services. All information you
provide will not be of public record for 70 years, so please be honest and
accurate with your answers. Be sure to include children that are attending
school away from home, since everyone must be accounted for.
Jobs
Available for the US Census 2010 - Good Pay, Flexible Hours, Work Close
to Home, Paid Training, Temporary/Par-Time Jobs. More information and
practice tests are available at www.2010censusjobs.gov or call the jobs line
at 1-866-861-2010. Salary ranges from $13.50 to $20.25 per hour.
PUBLIC
SAFETY: Effective November 24, 2009, by law, all children must be
restrained in an appropriate child restraint system while riding in a motor
vehicle until their 8th birthday. An appropriate child restraint system is
one that meets the child’s size and weight and the specifications of the
manufacturer. A child restraint system may be a child safety seat, harness,
vest or a booster seat. The vehicle’s safety belt is NOT a child restraint
system. Booster seats MUST be used with a lap and shoulder belt. Children 12
years and under should ride in the back seat. The simple task of properly
buckling up children in the back seat reduces the risk of being killed in a
crash by 33%.
USED
COMPUTERS NEEDED: Buying a new computer this year and would like to
donate your old equipment to the civic?? We are looking for 2 used computers
(not too old) for our friends in the park house. Please call Frank at (718)
843-2329.
DOT’S
EXPEDITED SIDEWALK REPAIR PROGRAM: From October 2009 to November 2010,
Department of Transportation will be piloting an Expediting Sidewalk Repair
Program for property owners who wish to repair their sidewalks. Come down to
this meeting for more information.
DOMESTIC
VIOLENCE AWARENESS: If you or someone you know needs help, you should
contact the 106 police precinct at (718) 845-2211.
JUST
A REMINDER TO BE MINDFUL OF OUR NEIGHBORS AND NEIGHBORS PROPERTIES. PLEASE
CURB YOUR DOG WHILE WALKING AROUND TUDOR VILLAGE.
Rain
Barrel Giveaway Program: Rain barrels capture storm water from your roof
and store it for future use, such as watering your lawn or garden. They
connect directly to an existing downspout, so that as soon as the barrel is
full, the excess storm water drains normally to the city's sewer system. Our
community was selected to participate in the Rain Barrel Giveaway Program, a
free BMP pilot to help DEP determine the effectiveness of rain barrels in
New York City. If you are a single- family or attached two-family homeowner
and would like to participate in this pilot, DEP will provide you with the
tools and training to install and use a rain barrel. To perform their
analysis, DEP will contact you periodically to discuss how the rain barrel
is working. This is a key part of DEP's broader citywide effort to better
manage storm water using a variety of innovative, sustainable techniques
known as best management practices, or BMPs. Please call 311 for more
information and to participate, or visit the DEP's website at
www.nyc.gov/dep or email
rainbarrel@depnyc.gov
Cease
and Desist Program: In order to continue this program for Queens
homeowners, we must write a letter to renew it for another 5 years. If not
renewed, we will be subject to indiscriminate solicitation by phone, mail
and/or in person by Real Estate Brokers seeking potential house sellers.
The
city has begun a program to replace water meters in residences. In some
cases this will necessitate DEP to gain entry into a home. PLEASE BE AWARE
AREAS IN OUR PRECINCT ARE CURRENTLY BEING DONE BY DEP CONTRACTORS. When our
area is scheduled, we will let you know.
DOES
THIS BUG YOU??? BECAUSE IT SURE BUGS ME……..
Every Sunday evening, we pack up our garbage and recycle products, and every
Monday morning we walk out of our homes to find our recycle plastic and
metal covers on the ground, our clear bags ripped open and garbage lying on
the curb.
It is obvious that we have bottle collectors rummaging through our pails and
bags during the night. If this bothers you as much as it bothers us, we have
(2) choices. First, we can bring back the bottles and cans to the stores
ourselves and collect the deposit or, we can be smart and rip off the labels
before placing them in the cans and bags. By doing this every week, we may
be able to stop the bottle collectors from making a mess of our garbage.
Let’s all give it a try!
GRAFFITI
has plagued not only this city, but countries all around the world.
There are limited amounts in Tudor Village, but yet in our eyes, there is
way too much. Please take 5 minutes out of your day to call 311 and report
any graffiti that you see on your block, your home, a mailbox, street sign,
light pole, fire hydrant, etc. It will certainly make your board members
lives easier and your street prettier. Thank you in advance for your help.
DISCOUNTS
ON SERVICES: As promised, we have a small list of businesses that are
willing to give a 10% discount to members of the Ozone Tudor Civic
Association. All you need to do is present your current membership (dues)
card when they provide you with an estimate. These companies have already
been used by members of our civic and feel that they are good reliable
companies. Should you have any difficulties with them, please contact Frank
Dardani.

Participating
COMMUNITY
DRIVEWAYS: As we have stated in the past, there are (2) community
driveways in Tudor Village; (1) between 85th & 86th Streets and the other
between 86th & 87th Streets. These driveways are for the sole purpose of
entering and exiting our properties. Children playing in the community
driveway is a disaster ready to happen. For the safety of everyone, please
do not use them as such.
Reminder:
Please keep your pets on a leash, and pick up after your dog when walking
through Tudor Village. Some of you have been caught and issued a summons by
the Sanitation Department for not doing so.
Graffiti:
If you have graffiti on your property and would like to have it removed
before getting a summons, call Frank at (718) 843-232.
REAL
ESTATE: Tudor Village is now prepared to help anyone who is a member of
The Ozone Tudor Civic Association to sell their house with the
professionalism of a major real estate company at a very special percentage
rate, which will mean a bigger profit for you. When you see a real estate
sign with a white strip underneath it saying “Assisting Tudor Village Civic
Association” PLEASE DO NOT CALL THE REAL ESTATE OFFICE! To receive
this very special deal, you must call Frank at (718) 843-2329 and he will
have the real estate contact you. We hope that when you leave, you invite
good families into our Village. This is our only wish, so please take
advantage of this great deal.
REMINDER
TO ALL RESIDENTS: The playground is not for
walking dogs. All dogs must be kept on a leash at all times. The areas
around the playground are okay, as well as the fields. Please pay attention
to all signs posted in Tudor Park. No open fires are permitted at any time.
Those residents who live adjacent to the park should call 911 for
emergencies and 311 for non-emergencies with anything concerning Tudor Park.
Your cooperation and help is greatly appreciated.
