Health Tips For Your Pet!
You may not be a veterinarian, but as a pet
owner you too can give your furry friend's a basic health exam.
It’s important to do a exam on your pet on a monthly basis to look for any
problems that might be occurring, if your pet is having a problem you should do
it more often, preferably on a weekly basis to keep track of any problems “
When examining your pet, start from the top and work your way down, checking for
any lumps, bumps and other abnormalities along the way. To get a better feel and
look at your pet's body, "scrunch" the skin instead of patting it.
If your pet hasn't been spayed or neutered before it's 2-years-old, check for
any lumps on your pet's mammary glands. You also want to examine your pet's
ears, eyes and mouth.
Lift up the ears, look inside to see if there is any discharge, any redness or
any thickening of the skin. If it's just a little bit of wax you can clean out
the ears with a cotton ball and some water and vinegar. Check into the eyes -
you want to look for any discharge any redness any cloudiness. If you look into
the mouth you want to look for any plaque buildup, any tartar, any redness along
the gum lines, any cracked teeth, any broken teeth, anything that would be a
source of discomfort for your pet.”
As for your pet's paws, look between each toe for any irritation, and if needed,
clean the pads. Also, trim overgrown and cracked nails.
If your pet is showing any signs of lameness, you can gently flex the different
joints starting from the toe moving up the leg to see if you can localize any
pain.
If you notice any problems with you pet's health, contact your vet to have your
animal companion further examined.
